Inspiration Board: Gatsby Glam

7 February, 2011

The Roaring ’20s are upon us in a big way in the fashion and style stakes, thanks to Boardwalk Empire and Baz Luhrmann’s up-coming adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. I’ve been a massive fan of the era ever since I read Gatsby in high school, and I adore the slinky dresses and art deco jewellery that started to make waves in weddings last year. Although there are a lot of things you can do with a 1920s theme, my favourite is combining it with the metallic/shimmer colour trend for a look that (with apologies to F. Scott) is full of money. Think mercury glass, champagne, sophisticated bling. I’m especially a fan of this gorgeous metallic-coloured bouquet and that headpiece? Wowsers. So if your boyfriend’s just given you a diamond as a big as the Ritz and you fancy something a little different from the vintage wedding stable, this could be the way to go.

Colours: Silver, gold, bronze, ivory, taupe and white

Top row (l-r): Vintage headpiece; metallic bouquet; metallic drink stirrers; coupleSyrie Maugham decor
Row 2: Champagne; tassel garland; mercury glass; flapper bridesmaids
Row 3: Gramophone; glitzy biscuits; cake; art deco invitation suite; bride.
