Cape Town City Engagement Shoot

29 September, 2010

I love engagement (or wedding!) shoots that take in the sights, sounds and most of all the vibe of a city. The romance of Paris. The buzz of New York. The funkiness of London’s East End. It really captures the place that you live (or met, or just that you hold dear) and the city becomes like an extra character in the shoot. Needless to say, I heart Cape Town very much, so I was really excited to see this shoot from Toni and Desmond of Desmond Louw Photography (we featured their fun vintage-style engagement pics here). I love the enthusiasm these two have for their photography and for the couples they work with, and how they’re always trying to find new angles and locations. Here’s hoping this inspires lots more couples to get out there and engage with the Mother City for their pictures!

From Desmond & Toni:
We are so in love with Cape Town. If you look right, you can get a city-feel just like anywhere else in the world.  We live in town and always wanted to do a proper city shoot with a cool couple… and here come Peter and Casey. The plan was to do a whole shoot in nature with their dogs that are like their kids (they even braai for their dogs; they are vegetarian)… but due to dog-sickness it all turned out differently. Peter is a secret agent (woopsie, already said too much), Casey is a law-student. Fun people, they are full of stories and cool to hang out with.

The city is a setting for a shoot that we would chose ourselves. What an awesome Sunday morning. This is an engagement shoot but would work for portraits and lifestyle shoots and anything else. We are still flashed by the way the pictures turned out and the stunning beauty of our city.
